One of the newest additions to the Lincoln Center campus, the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center allows the Film Society to present an even wider range of programming, including films, installations, panels and presentations, performances, and even late-night snacks at their wifi-equipped cafe. A complex design puzzle on which Rockwell Group collaborated with Diller Scofidio + Renfro, what was once a parking garage and underused offices is now home to three presentation spaces: the intimate 90-seat Howard Gilman Theater, the 150-seat Beale Theater, and an innovative space called the Amphitheater. The Amphitheater is at the heart of the new building and its back wall opens to the lobby and cafe for greater visibility of panelists, performers, and the 152" Panasonic Plasma screen it houses. Equipped with Web 2.0 and capable of hosting international artists and filmmakers in real time, the facility has become an interactive media destination within the Lincoln Center campus.

In anticipation of the Muny's 100th anniversary season in Forest Park, Fisher Dachs Associates was retained to provide conceptual designs and associated budget estimates for improvements that would serve as the basis for a capital campaign. After multiple visits to assess the facility, FDA provided a prioritized list of projects targeted for the anniversary season capital campaign, as well as for long-term planning and fundraising. Following this study, FDA remained on board for the design and construction of a new stage and support space. Improved technical accommodations include state-of-the-art lighting and audiovisual systems, multiple LED screens, and a new, automated stage with a turntable, scenery wagons, and performer lifts. The 180-foot long, structurally questionable, lighting suspension bridge from the 1930s was replaced with a much safer, more flexible spanning truss bridge. New support spaces include a climate-controlled orchestra pit and a donor lounge.

Designed by Cook+Fox Architects in collaboration with theatre consultants Fisher Dachs Associates, the theatre at 124 West 43rd Street (constructed as a part of the Bank of America Tower at Sixth Avenue and 42nd Street) replaces an earlier theater of that same name on this site. The original had suffered decades of haphazard alterations, neglect, and damage during its years as a discotheque in the 1980's, and could not be saved. The new space will boast numerous amenities, not least of which is its soon to be status as the first green, LEED- certified Broadway performance space in New York.

Diamond Schmitt Architects will design the concert hall and Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects will design all of the public spaces. The team will create a more intimate venue with state-of-the-art acoustics and flexibility to present orchestra concerts, solo performances, multimedia presentations, and movie screenings. With the new hall at the building's heart, all public spaces will be reconceived to provide better opportunities for people to gather and connect. The new hall introduces a "single-room" concept, eliminating the proscenium and moving the stage forward by 25 feet, with audience seating wrapped around it, bringing all seats closer to the performers and providing acoustical and visual intimacy. The new hall's variable stage configurations are designed to support a wide range of performance initiatives.

Stretching across 27 acres, the Wharf will revitalize the Southwest waterfront into a vibrant, mixed-use community. This new neighborhood will incorporate shops and restaurants with residences, a hotel, cultural attractions, marinas, and parks. The maritime heritage of the waterfront will be celebrated through the preservation of existing resources and the reactivation of the water's edge. A major attraction is the new 6,000-seat concert and event hall operated by the legendary 9:30 Club. FDA worked with Perkins+Will DC and Rockwell Group to design a flexible seating arrangement for both seated and standing events. A motorized stage and overhead can shift 30' into the hall for more intimate events. 3D models were used throughout the design process to study sightlines and coordination with AV equipment. FDA also provided services for backstage planning, and theatrical lighting and rigging specification.
- [University of Wisconsin at Madison, Hamel Music Center](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/university-of-wisconsin-at-madison-hamel-music-center/) - A highly competitive RFP process led the State of Wisconsin and the leadership at the University of Wisconsin Madison's music school to select Holzman Moss Bottino Architecture and Fisher Dachs Associates to design a new 57,000 square foot, $50 million music performance building. The feasibility and programming study, now complete, resulted in a cutting edge student-focused building featuring an intimate 800-seat concert hall, a 350-seat recital hall for both traditional and experimental performances, rehearsal rooms, and additional support spaces to make this an ideal teaching facility. Once complete, the new Hamel School of Music will allow UW Madison's students to rise to their professional potential while in an undergraduate setting.
- [Xiqu Centre](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/xiqu-centre/) - The new Xiqu Centre will host locally produced Cantonese Opera performances as well as visiting companies from across the Chinese-speaking world, where there are over 250 regional performance traditions. In addition to a main theatre seating 1,100, the project will include a traditional Tea House, rehearsal rooms and educational spaces. With 1,100 seats and a single balcony with side galleries, the main hall is intimate and lively. Taking inspiration from a Chinese garden, round "moon gates" define the side and back walls of the theatre. A 200-seat Tea House adds another, less formal option for visitors and a second space for intimate performances.The Xiqu Centre's overall design lifts the opera house up above the main level, creating a plaza which opens to the rest of the West Kowloon Cultural District site. The plaza will be home to seasonally-constructed bamboo theatres and concerts, and also will serve as the first meeting point for visitors to the Cultural District.

Situated in the heart of the nation's capital on Confederation Square, the NAC displays a Brutalist style that made it a fortress for the arts. In anticipation of Canada's 150th celebration in 2017, a rejuvenation was completed to establish new transparency and connection with the city. The transformation includes improved spaces for performance, new wings for audience and presentation events, and a new identity in the capital and for Canada as a whole. Public space for education, pre-concert gatherings, and small concerts will occupy the new North Atrium. An upper level Lounge will take in views of Confederation Square and Parliament Hill. This renewal brings the artistic energy of creation to the forefront to engage with the public and creates a dynamic crossroads for gathering at the NAC at all times of the day. FDA provided all performative capabilities and infrastructure for the public spaces.
- [The Shed](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/the-shed/) - The Shed is an exciting new home for the visual, performing and multimedia arts on the West Side of Manhattan on the south end of the Hudson Yards district. The concept for The Shed emerged from a need for space to host large projects for larger audiences than most of New York's cultural real estate can handle. Temporary and touring shows, food and art fairs, fashion shows and concerts will be held inside and outside the core building, which features a 140-foot retractable canopy that enables the adjacent plaza to become a full-fledged event space. FDA's team is collaborating with DS+R, Rockwell Group and the client group to plan the performance galleries in the base building and the shed space, along with the complex technical infrastructure that will allow these spaces to be used flexibly and experimentally. FDA's work includes design for the front and back of house spaces to make them usable for special events, concerts, theatre, dance, film and other presentations.

Built for New York State's prestigious Seventh Regiment between 1877 and 1881, the soaring 55,000 square foot Drill Hall remains one of the largest unobstructed spaces of its kind in New York.
- [Werklund Centre / Arts Commons Transformation](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/arts-commons/) - Located in the heart of Calgary’s Cultural District in the downtown core, Werklund Centre / Arts Commons occupies a full city block. The expansion’s dynamic design was supported by specialists in theatre planning and acoustic design to ensure the new theatre spaces exceed best-in-class technical requirements. The 1,000-seat theatre has the capacity to alter the floor layout to several unique configurations to accommodate the broadest variety of productions, and the 200-seat studio theatre’s design will enable multiple configurations with retractable and demountable platform seating and an opening out to the plaza.
- [Harvard University | Farkas Hall](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/harvard-university-farkas-hall/) - Leers Weinzapfel Architects and FDA were charged with renovating the former Hasty Pudding space into the Harvard University Farkas Hall. The design team quickly realized that the "renovation" would involve much more than a few repairs, new seats and a coat of paint. Large portions of the building's structure would have to be replaced, and the building had to somehow grow to provide new or expanded spaces for public and performer accommodations, a larger stage, new HVAC systems, and other requirements mandated by codes.
- [Marina Bay Sands Resort & Casino – Grand Theatre](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/marina-bay-sands/) - The new Marina Bay Sands Theatres opened in November 2010 with Riverdance and The Lion King, the first of many international events and Broadway-style shows. With stages over 120 feet wide and 50 feet deep, these impressive rooms will play host to some of the most complex productions in the world. With seamlessly integrated technology throughout the theatres, the staff will have access to the most advanced lighting and rigging systems available, and the audience will experience the first events of their kind in Singapore's history. FDA worked closely with Marina Bay Sands, Moshe Safdie and Base Entertainment during the design phases to ensure that audiences, performers and technicians participate in the stunning, multi-layered productions modern theatre has to offer. The spectacle of Broadway style shows and concerts is made possible by large capacity power points, which are placed strategically for automated rigging and stage machinery. Power is distributed throughout each venue with 1216 dimmers and relays per theatre for lighting equipment. In spite of the large power capacity, the daily energy draw of the theaters is "green" thanks to the use of energy efficient lighting fixtures both backstage and in the auditoria.
- [Count Basie Center for the Arts](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/count-basie-center-for-the-arts/) - Renovation and restoration of the Count Basie Theatre gave back to Red Bank, New Jersey residents a venue that originally opened in 1926. A major anonymous donation in 1973 was the first step in allowing the Monmouth County Arts Council to preserve and reopen the historic theatre for cultural uses. Originally known as the Carlton when it opened in 1926, the theatre was renamed the Monmouth Arts Center and then became the Count Basie Theatre, in memory of Red Bank native William "Count" Basie, a jazz pianist, bandleader and composer. The work to date was in phases. In 2004, FDA worked with Dahn and Krieger Architects to replace tired 1960's era seats, previously rescued from Carnegie Hall, with comfortable and historically accurate seating. In the latest phase, FDA, with Farewell Mills Gatsch architects, undertook a total restoration of the audience chamber: repair and repainting of the decorative plaster, new house lighting (including a new chandelier), new mechanical systems, and expansion of support space for the production staff and performers. FDA facilitated the integration of infrastructure for a new stage lighting system and improved the existing accommodations for forestage lighting trusses and speaker clusters.
- [University of Rochester, Eastman School of Music – Kodak Theater Renovation](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/university-of-rochester-eastman-school-of-music-kodak-theater-renovation/) - While retaining its grand Italian Renaissance style, Kodak Hall features a new sound system as well as critical patron amenities. The addition of orchestra- and mezzanine-level boxes and a new back wall on the orchestra level returns more sound energy to support both the performers and the patrons seated in the orchestra level.
- [Smith Center for the Performing Arts | Reynolds Hall](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/smith-center-reynolds-hall/) - The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, which opened in March 2012, has already made an impact on what promises to be a major cultural transformation in Las Vegas. The Smith Center has a state-of-the-art 2,050 seat multi-purpose hall, a 150 seat studio theatre and a 200 seat cabaret theatre. The large theater will present Broadway shows and other major touring attractions as well as orchestral, opera and dance performances. The studio theatre will feature more intimate productions, such as dance and drama, as well as being the orchestra's rehearsal hall. The cabaret will house jazz, cabaret, children's performances and community events. The 2,050-seat Reynolds Hall is at once grand and intimate: patrons feel close to the performers on stage without any compromise in sightlines. The design team has set a new standard for American multipurpose halls. The orchestra shell is designed to work seamlessly with the architectural character of the room; the rigging system ties the box tier doors into the acoustical drapery system in order to make the hall more absorptive for amplified events; the air-conditioned grid ensures not only the health of the workers but also the preservation of the electronic equipment.
- [Bradley Symphony Center](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/bradley-symphony-center/) - Restoring the Warner Grand Theater entailed the refinement of original detailing and the installation of modern features. The historic lobby and original ticket booth were restored to their pre-1950 condition. To make way for the new lobby and reception area, an adjacent two-story restaurant space dating from 1936 was demolished. While the restaurant building was originally a Moderne structure, past tenants including Burger King and Taco Bell have wiped away that original detailing. The addition added contemporary amenities adjacent to the historic structure. The first floor largely facilitates circulation, while the second floor is used as a secondary event space by the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. A circular skylight, placed above a centrally placed spiral staircase illuminates the space. The project also called for an intense engineering procedure to move the theater's rear terracotta wall approximately 30 feet east to increase the stage's size. New acoustical features were added behind historic details to transform the site into a first-class concert hall.

The intent of this project is to provide discrete and highly specific spaces for each owner within a shared envelope.The Gaynor School is a private elementary and middle school for children with learning difficulties, and inhabits the first seven floors, including the gym/cellar. The Ballet expanded their existing facility from their building on 89th Street to include the top three floors above the Gaynor school.The Gaynor School theater space seats 300, with state-of-the-art lighting and audiovisual systems. Retractable seating allows for more flexible use for other events, including a supplementary service to the gymnasium for soccer practice.

The Roger S. Berlind Theatre is built on the back of McCarter's existing space and functions as second stage to the original 1,100-seat house.

A traditional proscenium configuration in the space was eschewed for a modern thrust stage with stadium-style seating for 1,080. Alice Tully Hall (with a seating capacity of just under 1100) was built as a concert hall. The present work makes the room more flexible for a wide range of leased events and an expanded range of performance types.

The task facing the design team was to bring the technology and patron accommodations of the Moorish/Spanish Renaissance facility into the 21st Century while retaining every bit of its over the top architectural splendor.
- [Hatch Memorial Shell](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/hatch-memorial-shell/) - As part of the restoration and renovation of this landmark, 50-year-old concert shell on the banks of the Charles River, the aging theatrical lighting and acoustical systems were replaced by new fixtures and performance lighting positions. A new flexible stage was also added, replacing the worn-out original. The award-winning update restores and enhances the famous "golden nights" look of the shell's half-century old lighting fixtures additionally, below-ground support systems, dressing rooms, and offices were reconfigured to address current needs, and a new orchestra riser system and dance platforms were designed and installed. This beloved landmark serves as the summer home of the Boston Pops, Boston Ballet, and as a venue for music and dance groups, performers and films. The shell is operated by the Boston Metropolitan District Commission.

Its plan was to restore the auditorium and expand audience and performer amenities to assure the future of the highly successful Midwestern opera company.
- [Sam Wanamaker Playhouse Shakespeare’s Globe](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/sam-wanamaker-playhouse/) - The new Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at Shakespeare's Globe is an archetypal Jacobean indoor theatre, one that Shakespeare would recognize, based on two 17th-century drawings by John Webb. Extensive research has informed the construction methods and detailing in green Oak and an elaborate decorative scheme utilizing dramatic color and gold leaf. The 340-seat intimate theatre is exclusively lit by candlelight. The project also entailed the extensive refurbishment of the Globe's foyers which has completely transformed the public spaces serving both the Globe, the Wanamaker Playhouse and supporting the education program and the public tours. The new scheme has addressed various practical issues such as crowd flow and wayfinding but also, aesthetically, is more reflective ot the organization today.

The project included a new balcony structure and finishes, control booth, seating, HVAC upgrades, and emergency lighting. As described by USA TODAY, "Rebranded Phantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular- will occur in an 1,800-seat playhouse designed to look like the 19th-century Opera Garnier in Paris. Because the narrative starts in a ruined opera house, the audience first sees the chandelier askew and huge canvas draping the walls. When the tale flashes back, the canvas flies off, and the chandelier pieces assemble and light up in an 80-foot-wide dome." - Steve Friess
- [Charleston Gaillard Center](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/charleston-gaillard-center/) - The Gaillard Performance Hall is a renovation of the Gaillard Municipal Auditorium. The building housed not only the auditorium, which served an important civic function, but an exhibit hall that was an important revenue source. FDA worked closely with David M Schwarz Architects and the Spoleto Festival starting in 2008 to re-envision the hall. We collaborated with the team to present the project to donors and the city of Charleston, and refine the project to fit the constituent's needs.

RCA promotes voluntary integration by encouraging collaboration and cooperation among socioeconomic and ethnically diverse school district.
- [Reed College Performing Arts Building](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/reed-college/) - The Reed College Performing Arts Building (PAB), which opened September 2013, represents a major step forward in the college's commitment to the important role the arts have played throughout Reed's first 100 years. For the first time in Reed's history, the departments of music, dance, and theatre, previously scattered across campus, are consolidated into a new, vibrant and cross-disciplinary home for the arts. The facility encourages teamwork and experimentation across intellectual, social and creative communities while meeting the technical needs of each program. Opsis Architecture of Portland and Fisher Dachs Associates of New York worked extensively with members of the Reed community in designing the 80,000 square foot building. The design process focused on creating a facility that would be academic, student-centered, welcoming to the community, and collaborative. Main access to the building is through glass doors into the Atrium, a large open space filled with natural light that invites gatherings both impromptu and planned. The building features: a 200-seat studio theatre with flexible seating configurations, a highly experimental 100-seat black box theatre, a 100-seat choral rehearsal hall, and the 100-seat Performance Lab for theatre. Instruction and rehearsal spaces include a multi-media lab and resource library, two large dance and theatre rehearsal spaces, a costume / design studio, shared classrooms and faculty offices. Opsis designed the PAB in accordance with the requirements of Earth Advantage's Gold certification, and interfaced closely with Hoffman Construction in an integrated CM/GC process.

The pattern of streets and open spaces in the surrounding mixed-use district extends directly into the building's interior, creating a dense, vibrant creative environment. A complex program of musical education spaces is arranged on six floors. Three main public gathering areas - a student commons, a performance and rehearsal lobby, and an atrium - are linked by porous, daylit circulation volumes. The 700-seat concert hall with 200-seat recital hall are the primary performance venues. The concert hall ceiling features a suspended theatroacoustic system, which utilizes digital fabrication and parametric modeling tools to unify acoustic and theatrical equipment. The intricate latticework provides strategic openings for speakers, stage lighting, house lighting, fire sprinklers and acoustic transparency.

- [Westside YMCA, Majorie S. Deane Little Theater](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/westside-ymca-majorie-s-deane-little-theater/) - The Little Theater at the West Side YMCA on West 63rd St. in Manhattan had fallen into disrepair before the Deane family stepped forward to fund its renovation. When FDA and Mitchell Kurtz collaborated for its rehabilitation, they added a bank of 141 fixed seats in curved rows and designed much- needed upgrades to the performance equipment.
- [Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Boettcher Concert Hall](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/denver-center-for-the-performing-arts-boettcher-concert-hall/) - FDA designed concert and stage lighting control systems for this unusual 2,750-seat concert hall in-the-round. Completed in 1978, and about to be dramatically reconfigured with a new design team including FDA, Diamond Schmitt Associates, and akustiks, Boettcher Hall is a lovely, lively, and informal space for music and opera, with a feeling of intimacy surprising in so large a room. Eighty percent of the seats are within 65 feet of the stage, and no member of the audience is seated more than 85 feet away. The stage is large enough for 120 musicians.

- [Spirit Square](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/spirit-square/) - Built in 1909, Spirit Square was originally home to First Baptist Church, but the congregation eventually outgrew the space and moved to a different building in the early 1970s. Community leaders, determined to preserve the historic structure, rallied to preserve the church and began working to transform it into a community arts center. They finally got their wish in 1976 and, after carefully restoring its architectural detail, reopened it as Spirit Square.

A major improvement was to completely reconfigure the existing seating along a single graduated rake with slim, flanking side balconies. This change results in a much more intimate relationship between the audience and performers, and is one of the reasons the Joyce is considered New York's finest small dance space.

The Peter and Elizabeth Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center, designed with Wilson Butler Architects, is home to three performance venues, two art galleries, two dance studios and a suite of instructional facilities. The college's existing Smith Theatre was the anchor for the new building and the instructional and support facilities for the Horowitz Center were planned to be shared among the venues.

The Twigg-Smith Pavilion holds up to 400 people, with 175 fixed seats and a custom-designed set of movable bleachers with backrests for greater flexibility. The Pavilion has become one of the most vibrant and well-used spaces on the Middle School campus.
- [Centro Nacional de las Artes](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/centro-nacional-de-las-artes/) - This all-in-one performing arts campus in México City houses seven visual and performing arts colleges on a single site, where several strikingly unusual buildings present a dramatic and colorful architectural collage. FDA was the theatre consultant for all of them. We collaborated with six prestigious architectural teams, and were responsible for simultaneously coordinating planning, design, and equipment for seven performance spaces ranging in size from 200 to 1,000 seats for the Schools of Theatre, Dance, Music, and Visual Arts.

Rose Hall, its home in the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle. The project commenced in July 2015, with an estimated cost of $18.5 million and a scheduled completion of December. The redesign comes a decade after the opening of Rose Hall.

The site is an historic Mashantucket Pequot settlement.
- [Marlborough College, Memorial Hall](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/marlborough-college-memorial-hall/) - Memorial Hall is Marlborough College's principal memorial to the 749 men who gave their lives in World War I. The hall was built by Messrs Holloways of London at a cost of £53,000. The design was the result of a competition between Old Marlburian architects, the adjudicator being Sir John Simpson, President of the Royal Institute of British Architects. The winning design was that of William Newton. It was opened by H.R.H. The Duke of Connaught on May 23, 1925.
- [Harvard University | Lowell Hall](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/harvard-university-lowell-hall/) - To create a new 352-seat performance space for music and a larger, more comfortable lobby, a portion of the old pitched floor was demolished in an existing university lecture hall building originally built in 1902. The floor height was raised to create a sufficiently large rehearsal and performance area, and a new maple floor laid over three feet of fiberglass fill to create acoustic separation from the rehearsal/seminar space in the basement.

Envisioned to catalyze the revitalization of East Baltimore, the project integrates innovative educational facilities with community and recreational resources and reflects the neighborhood's urban fabric.

In respectful dialogue with this Modernist icon originally designed by Gordon Bunshaft in 1974, the Bubble is an architecture of air: a pneumatic structure enclosed only by a thin translucent membrane that squeezes into the void of the building and oozes out the top and beneath its mass.
- [Taconic Hills Central School, Performing Arts Center](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/taconic-hills-central-school-performing-arts-center/) - This 950-seat proscenium theatre is more than meets the eye: the back wall of the stage house opens to an outdoor amphitheater on the other side. The amphitheatre shares the same stage and back of house support spaces as the main auditorium, and adds 300 to the seat count.

It hosts an active series of recitals, pop artists, and a popular series of summer "rug concerts", the latter on a temporary floor that can be installed over the orchestra seats.
- [University of Rochester, Eastman School of Music – Eastman Theatre Orchestra Shell](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/university-of-rochester-eastman-school-of-music-eastman-theatre-orchestra-shell/) - The theatre, the home of the Rochester Philharmonic and the Eastman School of Music, needed major renovation. In the 1970's the Eastman School had introduced a new orchestra shell, which proved to be acoustically unsatisfactory. Eventually, the rigging was also deemed to be unsafe and stage lighting positions inadequate. The renovation addressed all of these issues.

It is the home for the Florida Grand Opera, Miami City Ballet and "Broadway Across America" Miami.
- [Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts | Carnival Studio Theater](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/adrienne-arsht-center-for-the-performing-arts-carnival-studio-theater/) - Miami's Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts is designed as a complex of single purpose state-of-the-art performance halls along the lines of New York's Lincoln Center. The Knight Concert Hall hosts classical and popular music concerts and serves as a venue for Miami's orchestral groups. To accommodate a wide range of uses, the Hall has an adjoining acoustical chamber, with large concrete doors that can be opened or closed to change the reverberation time of the room. There is also a three-part acoustical canopy, which can be moved vertically to change the acoustical reflections. The canopy is ringed with Vari-Lite light fixtures that can re-focus with the push of a button. The complex also houses the Studio Theater, a flexible intimately-designed black-box space for small-scale theater and dance presentations, and the Sanford and Dolores Ziff Ballet Opera House, capable of accommodating the grand sets and scenery employed in major theatrical productions, including opera, ballet, and Broadway musicals. The theatre occupies the first five and a half floors of an 11-story office tower. A variety of stage configurations - proscenium, end-stage, and three-quarter thrust stage - give the Company a totally flexible space. Simple technically advanced stagecraft include: a retractable proscenium that can be stored in the fly space; a series of seating units on movable wagons for three-quarter or "in-the-round" viewing; and a series of movable acoustical wall panels, arranged in a semi-circle in front of the proscenium for chamber music or solo recital concerts. This new theatre joins the Shakespeare's existing 451-seat Lansburgh Theatre to make up the enlarged Harman Center. After five years in the new space, The Shakespeare Theatre Company won the 2012 Tony Award for Regional Theatre.

- [Irish Arts Center](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/irish-arts-center/) - The Irish Arts Center (IAC) is a home for cultural exchange with Ireland, a place for creation and development of new productions, a venue that supports cross-collaborations between US and Irish artists in many disciplines, and a center for educational programs that serves both the Irish-American and larger community. For most of its existence, the IAC operated out of a converted three-story tenement building, whose ground floor garage was transformed into a small theater. Our new expansion develops an adjacent new building on 11th Avenue which is connected to the original facility, creating a center with two venues, as well as associated support, classroom, and rehearsal space.

- [Saint Paul’s School](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/saint-pauls-school/) - A soaring space for theatre and dance was designed to grace this private school's lovely hillside campus. The music and adjoining dance buildings were designed as barn-shaped structures to match those in the surrounding countryside. The most noticeable architectural feature of this design is that it comes in two parts: the architect separated the music and dance buildings and connected them by an (invisible) underground base containing rehearsal spaces and offices for both departments.
- [New Victory Theatre](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/new-victory-theatre/) - What is now known as the New Victory Theatre in Times Square was originally called the Theatre Republic when Oscar Hammerstein built it in 1900. Almost 100 years later, The New 42nd Street, Inc., a non-profit development corporation, directed an award-winning "interpretive restoration" of the theatre and it re-opened as a fully equipped, 500-seat, state-of-the-art facility.
- [St. George Theatre](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/st-george-theatre/) - Opened in December 1929, the St. George Theatre in its day was the most magnificent theatre on Staten Island — the island's newest movie and vaudeville house — and it outshone most of its competitors, including Manhattan's Capitol Theatre on Broadway. Until 1972 the theatre managed to stay open as a movie house, after that it was used as a roller rink, an antiques showroom, and a night club. In 2004, after being padlocked for over 30 years, the theatre became a performing arts center.

FDA and H3HC Architects designed the Davis Center in consultation with theater professionals in the University's academic departments. Georgetown also asked FDA to help review building plans and recommend how to appropriately outfit the space. The complex includes two spaces: the 230 seat Gonda Theatre and the 100 seat Devine Studio Theatre, plus scene and costume shops.

Much of the theatre is now of an age where some of the internal space is in increasingly urgent need of renovation and modernization, the infrastructure needs a major refurbishment to enable delivery of excellent quality public entertainment, and further space needs to be created to develop additional rehearsal and workshop facilities.

The venue opened in November 1990 with Billy Joel as the inaugural performer.

The alternating rhythm of masonry piers and lightweight, copper-sheathed bays combines the appearance of the monolithic original front with the more industrial steel-sheathed back.

Alumnae Hall did not meet the needs of contemporary performance or College gatherings, compromised by poor sight lines, acoustics, accessibility, and no lobby or rehearsal spaces. Alumnae Hall now serves new audiences and programs, reflects the College's commitment to its historic resources, and integrates contemporary design and new academic and community programming within the historic setting.

To accomplish this goal FDA specified three new high-end lighting control consoles, designed to handle the most complex lighting rigs with a user-friendly operating system.

- [Daegu Opera House](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/daegu-opera-house/) - The Daegu Opera House is a horseshoe-shaped auditorium with a seating capacity of 1,508. The opera house contains orchestra level and parterre seating; three balconies wrap around a hall dominated by a shallow dome. FDA has carved lighting coves into the dome so that stage lighting creates minimal architectural intrusion in the elegant, simple room. The flexible stage, which can be adapted for different performance requirements (music, opera and dance) includes a rear stage as well as left and right side stages to facilitate the efficient movement of large scenic elements. A stage lift also connects to an understage area to facilitate scenery storage. The spacious orchestra pit is equipped with two lifts to accommodate both large and small orchestras alongside performers on stage.

We worked closely to help balance the requirements of a public theater with those of the school.

The new 10,000-square-foot exhibit space, which comprises the ACM Gallery and the Fred and Dinah Gretsch Family Gallery, is a key public element of the Hall's $100 million expansion. Designed by Nashville's Tuck Hinton Architects, the expansion extends seamlessly from the existing Hall, increasing by 210,000 feet in total the previous 140,000-foot space. A new Taylor Swift Education Center, funded by contributions from Ms. Swift and the National Endowment for the Arts, increases to six from one the classrooms available for the Hall's "Words and Music" songwriting classes for Nashville area schoolchildren; a new dedicated Distance Learning Lab means schools from across the globe can arrange for similar experiences. The state-of-the-art, strikingly modern, horseshoe-shaped 800-seat CMA Theater is used for major Hall programs, and civic and private events. The space is highly adaptable, providing the perfect setting for more than conference performances: general sessions, sales meetings, television broadcasts, press conferences, and other functions.

- [BLUEBARN Theatre](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/bluebarn-theatre/) - BLUEBARN Theatre is a small, artisanal, hand-made theatre company in downtown Omaha, NE. After reading "The Neutrality Trap," the article by Josh Dachs about studio theaters in the January 2012 issue of American Theater Magazine, AD Susan Clement-Toberer decided to get in touch with FDA — and has been working together with us since then. With the resurgence of real estate prices in downtown Omaha and the deterioration of the space BLUEBARN has rented and improved, they decided to try to build a home of their own that they could own. The total project budget was limited to $6 million and the building to just under 15,000 GSF. At the same time, it was critical to maintain the special character of the BLUEBARN, and not sterilize out all the things that made it special to visit and work in. The upstage wall opens onto a rear "porchyard" that will serve as an outdoor event space, shop area, and an opportunity for alternate staging both inside and out. Their lobby features ceramics made by the AD's husband, handmade serving counters, and an amazing collection of beautiful artist-made show posters. These two ideas — a unique hand-crafted experience for a very low budget — are what have led our thinking during the design process. FDA has designed an up to 120-seat flexible studio theatre and a 150-seat film screening room for the School of the Arts. The multifunctional facility is the second and final phase of the SAG Foundation's New York Actors Center. That space, located at 1900 Broadway, opened in May 2014 and features a computer lab, voice-over lab and recording facility that includes a main recording booth with an attached classroom and solo booth.
- [Royal Caribbean International – Voyager of the Seas, La Scala Theatre](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/royal-caribbean-international-voyager-la-scala-theatre/) - For the first time, Royal Caribbean International (RCI) turned to theatre planning and design consultants to help design two types of onboard theatres for its new Voyager class ships. FDA's team of architects Wilson Butler Lodge, architectural lighting designers Fisher Marantz Stone, video designers Boyce Nemec, and acousticians Jaffe Holden was selected by RCI in a design competition among leading architectural and theatre design firms. The elegant, 1,350-seat horseshoe-shaped La Scala Theatre is modeled after the legendary opera house in Milan. Some of its extraordinary features are: Broadway-quality rigging, highly versatile stage and orchestra lifts, and sophisticated sound, lighting, and video systems. Technically, this theatre space provides a full complement of equipment for Broadway-style productions. The full-height flytower (a first on a cruise ship) allows the 25 foot-tall scenery to magically disappear on cue, while keeping the stage wings clear for a myriad of motorized scenic wagons that track on and off stage. A fast-moving turntable and multiple stage lifts accommodate both performers and scenic elements, while surround-sound speakers and hundreds of conventional and moving theatrical lights transform the theatre into a showcase for Royal Caribbean's entertainment programs.
- [Utah Performing Arts Center | The George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Theater](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/upac-eccles-theater/) - FDA was hired by GTS Development for Salt Lake County to conduct a feasibility study and develop a program for the Utah Performing Arts Center. FDA worked closely with GTS and the County to plan and implement an architectural selection process, which led to the selection of Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects. FDA continued on the project as the theatre planning and design consultant, collaborating with Pelli Clarke Pelli, HKS Architects, and acoustical consultant Jaffe Holden.The George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Theater presents touring Broadway productions, nationally prominent family shows, and music and comedy acts. These shows arrive in Salt Lake City much sooner with the new venue, and tickets are also available in a wider range of prices, making Broadway more affordable to all Utahns. The theater also serves as an additional venue for local arts organizations, including Ballet West and Utah Opera.As with Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects' previous work, the design of the Utah Performing Arts Center captures the spirit of its place — weaving the theater into downtown Salt Lake City, making connections to recent developments and serving as a catalyst for additional economic growth — a world-class theatre that reflects its surroundings.
- [Royal Academy of Music](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/royal-academy-of-music/) - FDA collaborated with Ian Ritchie Architects on this major overhaul of the 1970s auditorium, which has become the Susie Sainsbury Theatre. The works completed revised the geometry of the auditorium significantly, added a balcony, increased the seating capacity to 300, and improved the ambiance of the auditorium. Production capacity was greatly increased with a larger orchestra pit, increased wingspace, and added a new flytower, fitted with a motorized flying system. These improvements will allow the academy's students to perform larger operas and musicals than previously, and expand the curriculum and instruction the Academy can offer.

"The opera house is a visual overture to prepare the audience to enter into the magical world conjured by the music, the story and the theatrical setting of the opera," said Allan Greenberg, architect. "It facilitates a journey into the mind of the composer, in which the human voice gives breath to a living fantasy."
- [Western Connecticut State University School of Visual and Performing Arts](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/western-connecticut-state/) - For years, the Theatre Department at WCSU has been doing terrific work under far-from-ideal conditions. With the opening of the Visual and Performing Arts Center, teachers, performers, directors, designers, and technicians finally have a facility equal to their talents. The Center's facilities include: Scenery and costume shops for instruction and construction. A large rehearsal space, which can also serve as a black box studio theatre for informal performances. Smaller rehearsal spaces for scene work and classes. The department's centerpiece — and companion to the Music Department's Concert Hall — is the 350-seat proscenium theatre. It has an ideal audience capacity — a decent size, but not too large. An otherwise wonderful student performance might be lost in a larger space. With its balcony and side seating galleries, the theatre is designed to foster a dynamic, intimate relationship between the performer and the audience.

The PAC, which is a renovation and expansion of the historic San Antonio Municipal Auditorium, celebrates the unique character of the property while providing a state-of-the-art facility for San Antonio's cultural arts groups. The new Performing Arts Center serves as a permanent home for San Antonio's major performing arts organizations, including the San Antonio Symphony, Ballet, and Opera. One of the major hall's most striking qualities is its ability to transform from a nearly 1,800-seat performance hall into a flat-floor ballroom space, making it an incredibly flexible venue, equally suited for music and special events. The Tobin Center is comprised of the large, transformative H-E-B theatre the 295-seat Studio Theater and the 600-seat River Walk Plaza, rehearsal facilities, educational spaces, and offices.

Located in the Yujiapu Pilot Free Trade Zone, the Tianjin Juilliard School will be a center for performance, practice, and research, as well as interactive exhibitions and communal spaces that are designed to welcome the public into the creative process and the performance of music. Once completed, the campus will be an international hub for artists of all ages and abilities as well as the only performing arts institution in China to offer a U.S.-accredited master’s degree. The Tianjin Julliard School will offer a diverse range of courses and grant master’s degrees in orchestral performance, chamber music performance, and collaborative piano. It will also offer pre-college and instrumental training programs, adult education courses, and public performances and exhibits. DSR is the same firm that oversaw the 2009 renovations of Juilliard’s New York City campus and the redevelopment of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
- [Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts | Juilliard School](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/lincoln-center-juilliard-school/) - The emergence of The Juilliard School as one of the nation's premier training academies in the arts brought with it the challenge of providing facilities that match Juilliard's programmatic excellence. A new black box theatre, which doubles as a flexible rehearsal space, is one piece of a 100,000 square foot expansion and renovation of the school's original Pietro Belluschi building. Part of the redevelopment of the Lincoln Center Campus by DSR, the theatre provides a convertible space that easily accommodates rehearsal and performance needs for pre-professional students. Up to 100 seats can be placed on platforms along the length and width of the room or disappear into storage areas to uncover the resilient floor for performance and rehearsals. A palette of compatible robotic and stationary lighting fixtures is affixed via easily-accessed overhead rails. An easily movable steel gantry spans the width of the room and can slide along its entire length. In addition to being used to adjust overhead lighting fixtures, the gantry can be employed as an overhead stage for performers. The gantry is a key aspect of the design that allows for the room to be converted quickly from one use to the next. Other components of the expansion include an orchestra rehearsal space and recording studio, a large dance studio, and smaller studios, rehearsal rooms, classrooms and offices.
- [The Times Center](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/times-center/) - The 378-seat auditorium for the Times Center is a flexible venue that hosts and broadcasts a wide range of events, from internal meetings to the now well-known Times Talks series. With state-of-the-art performance lighting as well as audio and video systems, the space is as fully equipped to accommodate music, dance and multimedia performances as it is to support town hall meetings, special events and conferences. The rear wall of the stage has three views which change the character of the room to suit the gathering's needs: glass, revealing the building's interior garden, a blackout shade and a translucent shade for a transparent lighting effect. The theatre's back-of-house spaces include a full-service greenroom with audio and video playback from the stage, two dressing rooms, a private restroom and production office facilities for event producers.

For 38 years, they've received 180 award nominations, produced three Pulitzer Prize-winning plays, and transferred nine productions to Broadway. Now, with the $64M acquisition and renovation of the historic Helen Hayes Theater, they've expanded their campus from two stages to three, broadening their impact on our artists and audiences, and creating a much-needed Broadway home for new American plays and diverse voices. With its unusual Neo-Georgian design, the Hayes is a striking presence on 44th Street. The entire building has been modernized to create a more welcoming environment with a new cafe lounge, a space for hosting readings, expanded dressing rooms for the artists, nearly double the number of restrooms, a new wheelchair-friendly box office, a full-service elevator, and new seating options throughout the auditorium. For the first time in the building's history, mobility-impaired guests will have the same freedom of movement and choice of seats as everyone else. The renovation is designed to achieve LEED silver certification.

- [Stanford University | Bing Concert Hall](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/standford-university-bing-concert-hall/) - FDA began working with Stanford University and its local presenting group, Stanford Lively Arts, during the early planning stages of the Performing Arts Center project. During extensive interviews with stakeholders, school user groups, administration, and facilities departments, the team planned the hall to be a true partnership between Stanford's performing arts and music departments and Stanford Lively Arts. In addition to achieving acoustical excellence, the client's objectives for the hall recognized the changing nature of classical music performance. Soloists, orchestras, and chamber groups are increasingly experimenting with visual media, lighting, and movement, and the hall has been carefully designed to facilitate these more theatrical types of musical presentations. In addition, there was a strong desire to make an informal space that would break down the real and implied barriers that separate audiences and performers in so many halls. This desire contributed to keeping the seating capacity low so that no one is very far away from the stage. The decision to adopt a surround-style arrangement and to place the musicians at the same floor level as the front row of seats provides exciting perspectives on the musicians, allowing the audience to see the conductor from the musicians' point of view and to watch the subtle interactions between artists up close. The result is a hall in which the audience and musicians share an intimate space and can hear, see, and feel the music together.

The improvements support two distinct functions: a public face with adequate amenities to enhance the audience experience, and a service side to enable ease of operations and the performer experience.

The $400-million, four-storey, 175,000 sf building is located on Front Street near Yonge Street, beside Meridian Hall.
- [South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/south-miami-dade/) - South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center provides a world-class, multi-disciplinary cultural venue and community gathering place in the southern part of Miami-Dade County. The Center plays a key role in the economic and cultural development of the area. In addition to providing a diverse range of quality entertainment to people from all backgrounds and ages, the Center's mission includes an emphasis on educational and outreach activities in partnership with community groups. The Center's multiple rehearsal and performing spaces offer accessible facilities to the Miami-Dade artistic community, presenters and audiences throughout South Florida. The Main Stage is a state-of-the-art 966 seat performing arts space with a fly tower, orchestra pit, front of house spaces, back of house support spaces, and offices. The Black Box Theater is a 39' x 49' multipurpose space used largely for intimate performances and rehearsals, seating up to 129 patrons. The adjacent Activities Building has three spaces: a multipurpose lab theater, a spacious dance rehearsal studio with sprung floors, and a room for a future cafe. The Center's two buildings are joined by an outdoor promenade which can be used for receptions, and which leads to a gently sloped concert lawn along the Black Creek Canal, which can accommodate more than 700 people for outdoor concerts and festivals. The Center is managed by the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, with funding support from the office of the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners.
- [Sidney Harman Hall (Shakespeare Theatre Company)](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/sidney-harman-hall/) - The Shakespeare Theatre Company in downtown Washington, DC, has added a second theatre to create the Sidney Harman Center for the Arts. The new 776-seat theatre, designed to address the Shakespeare Theatre's expanded programming mission, makes possible a wide variety of staging configurations as well as presentation of dance and music events. The space is easily adapted for chamber music as well as live, amplified or recorded sound. The theatre occupies the first five and a half floors of an 11-story office tower. A variety of stage configurations - proscenium, end-stage, and three-quarter thrust stage - give the Company a totally flexible space. Simple technically advanced stagecraft include: a retractable proscenium that can be stored in the fly space; a series of seating units on movable wagons for three-quarter or "in-the-round" viewing; and a series of movable acoustical wall panels, arranged in a semi-circle in front of the proscenium for chamber music or solo recital concerts. This new theatre joins the Shakespeare's existing 451-seat Lansburgh Theatre to make up the enlarged Harman Center. After five years in the new space, The Shakespeare Theatre Company won the 2012 Tony Award for Regional Theatre.

The ornamental, neo-classical inspired building has 1,860 seats arranged in shoebox configuration. The stage accommodates as many as 115 musicians, and an additional 140 choral seats behind the stage. A hallmark feature of the Laura Turner Concert Hall is its flexibility. The center section of the main auditorium rests on multiple chair wagons. A platform lift allows seat wagons to be lowered to a storage level beneath the orchestra level, creating a flat floor for pop concerts, dances, and special events.

- [Royal Caribbean International – Voyager of the Seas, Studio B](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/royal-caribbean-international-voyager-studio-b/) - For the first time, Royal Caribbean International (RCI) turned to theatre planning and design consultants to assist in designing onboard theatres for its new fleet of "Voyager" class cruise ships. The Voyager Class of ships contain entertainment spaces unlike anything ever built onboard, including this versatile 900-seat theatre. Called Studio B, the space transforms into a television studio for game shows broadcast shipwide. In fact, any event on the ship can be uplinked anywhere in the world via satellite. In perhaps the most unusal configuration, telescopic seating and a sliding floor retract to reveal a 40' x 60' rink for ice shows and recreational skating. Fitted with an enormous array of equipment for sound, light, and video production, as well as full complement of stage rigging, Studio B can accommodate almost any type of performance. The elegant, 1,350-seat horseshoe-shaped La Scala Theatre is modeled after the legendary opera house in Milan. Some of its extraordinary features are: Broadway-quality rigging, highly versatile stage and orchestra lifts, and sophisticated sound, lighting, and video systems. Technically, this theatre space provides a full complement of equipment for Broadway-style productions. The full-height flytower (a first on a cruise ship) allows the 25 foot-tall scenery to magically disappear on cue, while keeping the stage wings clear for a myriad of motorized scenic wagons that track on and off stage. A fast-moving turntable and multiple stage lifts accommodate both performers and scenic elements, while surround-sound speakers and hundreds of conventional and moving theatrical lights transform the theatre into a showcase for Royal Caribbean's entertainment programs.

The multifunctional facility is the second and final phase of the SAG Foundation's New York Actors Center. That space, located at 1900 Broadway, opened in May 2014 and features a computer lab, voice-over lab and recording facility that includes a main recording booth with an attached classroom and solo booth.

Within the interior landscape of the Moody Center a flexible studio space brings diverse programmatic functions into contact with one another. The first floor of the Moody Center features the Lois Chiles Studio Theater, a 150-seat Studio Theater for performing arts and its support spaces; the skylit Brown Foundation Gallery and central gallery for exhibitions and experimental performances; two media arts galleries; Creative Open Studio; and an interdisciplinary maker lab that includes a wood shop, metal shop, paint booth, rapid prototyping areas and a student classroom. Outside the Brown Foundation Gallery is an outdoor projection wall.

Similar in their experimental nature but overlapping only slightly in content, the two studios complement each other and encourage use from all of the Institute's departments. Studio 1 is primarily a home for visualizations, multi-screen and immersive performances, and dance. Video can be projected on all walls of the studio, and atop its 40 foot high ceiling, a walkable lighting grid facilitates efficient lighting changes.

- [Park Avenue Armory | Philharmonic 360](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/park-avenue-armory/) - The New York Philharmonic explored the spatial qualities of the Armory's soaring, 55,000-square-foot Wade Thompson Drill Hall with four iconic works in which the orchestra members surround the audience. The centerpiece of the evening was the rarely-performed Gruppen by Karlheinz Stockhausen — a work that requires three orchestras and three conductors. Also on the program were Pierre Boulez's Rituel in Memoriam Bruno Maderna, the Finale of Act I from Mozart's opera Don Giovanni, and Charles Ives' The Unanswered Question.Fisher Dachs Associates designed the theatrical arrangement of seating and staging for the production.

The building contains a wide and very flexible group of major venues - a 1,200-seat concert hall, a 400-seat theater, a 3,500-square-foot studio, and a 2,500-square-foot studio - as well as suites for artists, rehearsal spaces, and support facilities. All are designed to the highest professional standards to accommodate both the traditional performing arts and contemporary works that incorporate digital and other media; and all are being made available to artists-in-residence who work experimentally.
- [Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, EMPAC Concert Hall](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/rensselaer-polytechnic-institute-empac-concert-hall/) - Designed to be a first-class venue for symphonic music, yet equally capable of accommodating jazz, amplified music, presentations, film and dance with electronically generated sound and video projection, the EMPAC concert hall is configured traditionally in a "shoe box" format: as a long, narrow room of wood and masonry construction. The floor and lower walls are all finished in maple, while the upper walls are clad in a combination of precast acoustic panels made of gypsum and precast stone.
- [Olympia Theater at The Gusman Center for the Performing Arts](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/olympia-theater/) - Formerly known as the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts, Olympia Theatre in downtown Miami opened in 1926 as a silent movie palace and amazed residents with its Moorish-themed 'atmospheric' architecture. Originally designed by John Eberson, it was renovated extensively in the 1970's by famed Miami architect Morris Lapidus and re-opened as the home of the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra.
- [Old Globe Theatre | Conrad Prebys Theatre Center](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/old-globe-theatre/) - In October 2009, the Old Globe Theatre's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center opened the doors to its latest addition. The new Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, with 250 seats in the round, was designed by LMN Architects with FDA as a much-needed replacement for the Cassius Carter Centre Stage. One of the most unusual and exciting features of the space is its intimacy, especially for an arena-style theatre. There is "no seat more than 12 feet from the stage," says Lou Spisto, the Old Globe's CEO and executive producer. FDA designed crisscrossing catwalks for swift and flexible changes to lighting positions, as well as a deep trap space, one of the missing pieces the staff and crew found most frustrating about the old space. FDA worked with Mr. Spisto to study the theatre center's campus and determine the best options for replacing the Carter Centre Stage. While the new space sits on the former Carter site, it greatly expands on the old building's capabilities. There is now a 6,200 square-foot education center, event space, and an extraordinary amount of storage room. The new support spaces can be shared by the Main Stage via a walkway between the two buildings.
- [New York University School of Law | Tishman Auditorium](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/new-york-university-school-of-law-tishman-auditorium/) - Dedicated in 1967 and named in memory of former Law School Trustee David Tishman, Tishman Auditorium is an epicenter for intellectual discourse, hosting luminaries from around the world. The newly renovated Tishman Auditorium in Vanderbilt Hall reopened in January 2020 with a screening of the film Just Mercy. The new space, designed with accessibility in mind, features a new seating layout, lighting system, and technical control room. The updated stage has a more intimate relationship to the audience, and the redesigned wings have improved the acoustics. The auditorium also has state-of-the-art audiovisual and IT equipment, including multiple screens with projection and streaming capability.
- [New York City Center](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/new-york-city-center/) - Known as the "people's performance space" since mayor Fiorello LaGuardia rescued this 1923 Moorish-style temple from the wrecking ball, City Center's reinvigoration marks a powerful moment in New York's Performing Arts heritage. At one time the home of the New York City Ballet and New York City Opera, City Center now presents a wide range of events and remains true to its promise to bring high-quality performance to New York City residents at reasonable prices. FDA collaborated with Ennead Architects and New York City Center to restore and reconfigures the hall. More than just sightline improvement and a new seating plan, this renovation drastically changed the rake, row depth, and configuration of the seating as well as the geometry of the room. The result is that the hall, once cavernous and uncomfortable, is now intimate, warm, and accessible. The balconies were extended toward the stage, giving patrons a better connection to the dancers, actors and orchestras on stage. The lobbies and public spaces are greatly improved, with patron amenities, which are cleverly nestled into the building's historic architecture, taking center stage at intermissions.
- [National Music Centre | Studio Bell](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/studio-bell-national-music-centre/) - The National Music Center of Canada is an entirely new cultural institution dedicated to the music of Canada in all of its forms. It is at once museum, performance hall, interactive music education center, recording studio, broadcast center, and exhibition of the Cantos Music Foundation's growing collection. Sited opposite the Stampede Grounds in Calgary's historic East Village, the new NMC, along with the restored King Edward Hotel, revitalizes the district. The project marks the first stage of a new music district in the historic heart of the city. The first floor houses a live performance venue, called Canada Music Square, along with interactive displays that provide an overview of the centre. The second storey houses the main performance hall, which overlooks the lobby and serves as the building's programmatic and structural center. With flexible seating and a movable acoustic wall, the concert hall can be closed for intimate performances and be fully opened to the lobby and circulation spaces, filling them with music.
- [National Museum of African American History and Culture](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/nmaahc/) - Occupying the last available space on the National Mall, the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture is situated prominently between the National Museum of American History and 15th Street, next to the Washington Monument. When it opens to the public in 2016, the museum will be a centerpiece venue for ceremonies and performances, as well as a primary exhibition space for African American history and culture. FDA is responsible for the planning and design of a 370-seat auditorium for NMAAHC. Conceived as a true multipurpose room, the theatre features motorized rigging, variable acoustics banners, and a complete inventory of LED theatrical lighting fixtures on automated lighting battens. After Oprah gave an extraordinary gift to the NMAAHC's capital campaign in 2013, the Smithsonian Institution announced that it would name the room the Oprah Winfrey Theatre.
- [Mariinsky II Opera House](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/mariinsky-ii-opera-house/) - The Diamond Schmitt / KB ViPS building, with its 2,000 seats, will complement the extant 1,600-seat Mariinsky - completed in 1860 and home to what used to be known as the Imperial Russian Ballet - and the nearby Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall, which was designed by French architects Xavier Fabre and opened in spring 2007 with room for 1,100 patrons. The completion of the new Mariinsky will result in what some have called St. Petersburg's equivalent of New York's Lincoln Center. The Mariinsky commission derives directly from Toronto's Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts which Diamond + Schmitt designed, on a $186-million budget, as the home of the Canadian Opera Company and the National Ballet of Canada. The Mariinsky's Mr. Gergiev was taken on a tour of the centre by the then-COC artistic director Richard Bradshaw in February, 2007, while visiting as guest conductor for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Gergiev was impressed by the building's universally admired acoustics and, more importantly perhaps, its practicality - it was smart, effective, very beautiful and finally, not the most expensive.

The goals were simple: save the architecturally significant building, modernize all safety, environmental, and performing systems, and return it to its original use as a center for performing arts.
- [Lotte Concert Hall](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/lotte-concert-hall/) - Designed to be a first class venue for symphonic music, the Lotte Concert Hall is arranged as a surround hall, with 2,000 seats encircling a generous stage sized for a full-size orchestra and chorus. The concert hall, designed with dmp Architects, sits atop six mixed-use floors in a supertower designed by KPF Architects that contains offices, a hotel, residential units, retail, and other amenities. A major symphony hall integrated into a thriving mixed-use tower, Lotte Concert Hall is the first of its kind in Seoul, and will bring top-tier cultural events into the mix of activities residents and visitors expect from their experience in such a building. The design of the room features motorized orchestral riser stage lifts, automated lighting battens for theatrical lighting, deployable film screens and projectors, motorized variable acoustics banners, and extensive back-of-house support for visiting orchestras and artists. Lotte World Tower is a 123-floor, 556-meter skyscraper in the second-generation Lotte World complex in Seoul, South Korea. It is one of the tallest skyscrapers in the world, surpassing One World Trade Center in New York City and housing the tallest observation deck in the world on its 123rd floor at 497.6 meters.
- [Long Center for the Performing Arts](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/long-center/) - After a programming phase spearheaded by FDA to help plan for the needs of arts groups in the community, Austin's Arts Center Stage engaged Jaffe Holden Acoustics and Zeidler Roberts Partnership to join with us in carrying out a major transformation of Austin's circa 1958 Palmer Auditorium. This City-owned structure was both outdated and poorly equipped to meet the needs of the City's rich offerings of jazz, modern dance, experimental theatre, opera, and symphonic music. The reconfigured Palmer has both a 2,400-seat multipurpose theatre and a new, 200-seat studio theatre. The large, fully equipped Dell Hall serves as the permanent homes of the Austin Lyric Opera, Ballet Austin, and the Austin Symphony Orchestra. The smaller, flexible Rollins Studio Theater serves as an inviting, affordable alternative for many of Austin's smaller performing groups.

- [Hudson River Museum Amphitheater](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/hudson-river-museum-amphitheater/) - The Hudson River Museum Amphitheater is constructed on a half-acre site next to the museum in Trevor Park, and connects to the Westchester RiverWalk — a 51.5-mile, richly programmed esplanade paralleling the Hudson River. The context of the museum's 1960s brutalist ribbed concrete design inspired the Amphitheater's concrete material and form.
- [Coconut Grove Playhouse](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/coconut-grove-playhouse/) - From 1927 until 2006, the Coconut Grove Playhouse was an entranceway to the neighborhood and a central hub for the area's social activity. It was shuttered in disrepair. $20 million in public funds have been set aside for its restoration, and in February 2015 Arquitectonica won the project.

This facility, designed by Renzo Piano, is more than a beautiful building containing an art gallery, a film screening room, a presentation space, and a performance space: it serves as a hub for the creation of new works and the refinement of works-in-progress across various media, featuring exhibitions, theatrical performances, symposia, and lectures that present new artistic voices and perspectives from around the globe. The resources made available by the center also strengthen Columbia's longstanding ties to the vibrant local arts community based in Harlem, generating partnerships with talented artists in northern Manhattan and throughout New York City. FDA has designed an up to 120-seat flexible studio theatre and a 150-seat film screening room for the School of the Arts.
- [Berkeley Art Museum Pacific Film Archive](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/berkeley-art-museum-pacific-film-archive/) - Forward-looking and versatile, the new Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive is a dynamic and engaging place to experience diverse art, film, performance, and education programs, and to access extensive collection and archives. Diller Scofidio + Renfro's design for the new BAM/PFA combines the 1939 concrete Art Deco-style former printing plant, unoccupied since 2004, with a new metal-clad structure. The new design creates a cohesive and visually arresting space for art, film, education, civic interaction, and administration. Plans call for the industrial building—currently a single-story, skylighted structure with a three-story administrative wing at its east end—to house the museum's collection and exhibition galleries, a thirty-two-seat screening room, museum store, learning center, K–12 education areas, community gallery, and offices. The new structure, extending between the corner of Oxford and Addison Streets and the museum's Center Street facade, includes the 230-seat PFA Theater, Library and Film Study Center, special event space, collection study area, café, and nonpublic areas. The facility is thus defined by two primary and integrated components: the imaginatively repurposed older building and a complementary, forward-thinking multipurpose structure.
- [Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts | Claire Tow Theater](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/lincoln-center-claire-tow/) - For many years, the Lincoln Center Theatre Company has had a need to supplement the Vivian Beaumont and the Mitzi Newhouse spaces with a small, less formal performance space. In February 2010, Lincoln Center Theatre announced plans to construct an addition on the roof of the Vivian Beaumont Theater. This addition will include the Claire Tow Theater, rehearsal rooms, office space and a roof terrace. The theatre is the new home of LCT3, the programming initiative devoted to producing the work of emerging playwrights, directors and designers. Through mounting fully staged, modestly budgeted productions, LCT3 is bringing a new generation of artists and audiences to Lincoln Center.
- [Brown University Granoff Center for Creative Arts](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/brown-university-granoff-center-for-creative-arts/) - Brown University's new Granoff Center, which opened in February 2011, is designed to encourage the kinds of collaborative, interdisciplinary programming that defines Brown's exceptional presence in higher education. The joining of Brown's arts departments under one roof originated with the advisory board's initiatives to underwrite new collaborative opportunities — among them, a series of grants for performances, exhibitions, symposia, lectures and new media projects. The components of various arts programs overlap visually and programmatically in the space. There is a 225-seat room for music, film, lecture, theatre, and movement, as well as three production studios of varying sizes, from 40 to 120 seats in flexible arrangements. These are meant to comprise the central goals of the building, giving way to new possibilities for ambitious multimedia installations, presentations, and performance-based work. Both the studios and the main theatre are fit with state-of-the-art equipment to support new media programs, studio and visual art, and theatre.
- [Baldwin School Simpson Center](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/baldwin-school-simpson-center/) - The arts have been integral to the Baldwin experience since the school’s founding. The caliber of Baldwin’s theatrical and musical productions are now matched by a first-class venue. The Grey Gym was carefully renovated, and along with adjacent areas now comprises The Simpson Center. Materials salvaged from the beloved Cornelia Otis Skinner Dramatic Workshop were incorporated into the design. The Simpson Center features a flexible stage area with new lighting and seating, dressing rooms, and a set construction workshop. The hybrid seating system allows for multiple configurations suited for an intimate piano recital, or a full scale theatrical performance for up to 225 spectators. In addition to the performance space, the Center includes a spacious art gallery and arts courtyard. These settings offer an opportunity for visual arts students to display their own work, or to experience work by established artists. The gallery and arts courtyard add another important dimension to the diversity and depth of Baldwin’s arts curriculum.
- [College of the Holy Cross | Prior Performing Arts Center](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/college-of-the-holy-cross-prior-performing-arts-center/) - Destined to be a campus focal point in the years to come, the ambitious and comprehensive Center for the Arts and Creativity will include dedicated spaces for the fine and performing arts, as well as spaces and technology to support creative interactions between the arts and other disciplines. The new center will provide a gateway to the Holy Cross campus — a visible space for the arts.

- [Goldman Sachs Auditorium](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/goldman-sachs-auditorium/) - Goldman Sachs Auditorium is 350-seat space used for everything from new employee training to new product introductions to large scale international broadcasts of senior executive addresses.
- [Holland Performing Arts Center](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/holland-performing-arts-center/) - A 2000-seat, modified shoebox style concert hall, a 450-seat recital hall, and an open courtyard are the principal features of the Holland Performing Arts Center. This sumptuous new facility is home to the Omaha Symphony, as well as local, national and international programs, education and outreach activities. The intimate 450-seat chamber music hall is designed to be flexible enough to host banquets and double as rehearsal space. FDA's involvement began in the programming phase, where we guided the shape of the room and helped to determine the most efficient back-of-house configuration. We suggested side boxes for visual interest and intimacy, and wrapped seating in one continuous band around the rear of the orchestra, allowing audience members seated behind the stage to watch the conductor and musicians. This configuration also creates a sense of visual unity in the room, something the design team enhanced by introducing natural light through clerestory windows. While programming the new building for its planned uses, FDA also helped renovate Omaha's historic 2,600 seat Orpheum Theatre, providing the equipment and other requirements to host Broadway tours and create a significantly improved audience environment.
- [Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts | Knight Concert Hall](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/adrienne-arsht-center-knight-concert-hall/) - Miami's Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts is designed as a complex of single purpose state-of-the-art performance halls along the lines of New York's Lincoln Center. The Knight Concert Hall hosts classical and popular music concerts and serves as a venue for Miami's orchestral groups. To accommodate a wide range of uses, the Hall has an adjoining acoustical chamber, with large concrete doors that can be opened or closed to change the reverberation time of the room. There is also a three-part acoustical canopy, which can be moved vertically to change the acoustical reflections. The canopy is ringed with Vari-Lite light fixtures that can re-focus with the push of a button. The complex also houses the Studio Theater, a flexible intimately-designed black-box space for small-scale theater and dance presentations, and the Sanford and Dolores Ziff Ballet Opera House, capable of accommodating the grand sets and scenery employed in major theatrical productions, including opera, ballet, and Broadway musicals. The theatre occupies the first five and a half floors of an 11-story office tower. A variety of stage configurations - proscenium, end-stage, and three-quarter thrust stage - give the Company a totally flexible space. Simple technically advanced stagecraft include: a retractable proscenium that can be stored in the fly space; a series of seating units on movable wagons for three-quarter or "in-the-round" viewing; and a series of movable acoustical wall panels, arranged in a semi-circle in front of the proscenium for chamber music or solo recital concerts. This new theatre joins the Shakespeare's existing 451-seat Lansburgh Theatre to make up the enlarged Harman Center. After five years in the new space, The Shakespeare Theatre Company won the 2012 Tony Award for Regional Theatre.
- [La Maison Symphonique](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/la-maison-symphonique/) - The new home of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra was erected in the heart of the Quartier des spectacles is on the esplanade of Place des Arts at the corner of de Maisonneuve and rue Saint-Urbain. Responding to the highest international standards in acoustics, board development, and architecture, the new acoustic concert hall was built around the concept shoe box. This model is favored by managers of the best acoustic concert halls in the world. The rectangular model shoe box is distinguished among others by its long and narrow spaces corresponding geometric proportions. The model shoe box has no backstage or pit, or unnecessary physical facilities on which sound waves can bounce. For this reason, the room is not designed to meet the needs of theater performances, dance, ballet or opera with sets. The auditorium itself — 21 meters high, 50 meters long, and 25 meters wide — allows sound to be projected in all its dimensions, thereby further enhancing privacy and reaching the sound quality.
- [Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts | Alice Tully Hall](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/lincoln-center-alice-tully-hall/) - FDA collaborated with architects Diller Scofido + Renfro and FXFOWLE on the renovations of The Juilliard School and Alice Tully Hall, part of a larger redesign of West 65th Street and a revitalization of the campus. With the work completed, Alice Tully Hall is now technically, acoustically, and aesthetically transformed; additionally, DS+R has designed modifications to the building facades along Broadway and 65th Street that break down the fortress-like quality of the Juilliard building and reveal the vibrant life within. FDA's work has included detailed program development and collaboration on the design of the hall, public areas, and backstage support spaces throughout the Juilliard / Tully building on the Lincoln Center campus in New York. Alice Tully Hall (with a seating capacity of just under 1100) was built as a concert hall. The present work makes the room more flexible for a wide range of leased events and an expanded range of performance types.
- [Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts | R. Fraser Elliott Hall](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/four-seasons-centre-for-the-performing-arts-r-fraser-elliott-hall/) - Within the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto, Canada resides the 2,000 seat R. Elliot Fraser Hall, designed specifically for opera and ballet and is home to the Canadian Opera Company and National Ballet of Canada. The traditional, four-tiered European-style horseshoe-shaped auditorium was meticulously designed for optimal sightlines and acoustics. FDA planned and organized the seating configuration to maximize a sense of intimacy between audience members and performers, with every seat computer-tested for the best possible sightlines.
- [Byham Theater](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/byham-theater/) - The 1050 seat Byham Theatre is one of the jewels of the Pittsburgh Cultural district. In the 1990's, the 1903 theatre underwent a series of renovations. 1995 brought new restrooms, an expanded box office, a new marquee, lobby enhancements, and an elevator. In 1999, the height of the fly tower was increased by 20 feet, and the original rope and sand bag rigging was replaced by new manual counterweight rigging. The 1999 renovation also included new lighting, enlargement of the orchestra pit and a new building-wide HVAC system.
- [Guthrie Theater](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/guthrie-theater/) - The original home of this important regional company was built in the early 1960's and the Guthrie has been struggling with major space deficiencies ever since. With its badly aging 35-year old home no longer sufficient for either its present programs or new ones, the Guthrie embarked on a plan for a new three-theatre complex.
- [Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/lincoln-center-for-the-performing-arts/) - For over 30 years, FDA has renovated existing venues on the LCPA campus and designed the newest additions: the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center, which allows the Film Society of Lincoln Center to present an even wider range of programming, including films, installations, panels and presentations, as well as performances; the Claire Tow Theater, a black box theatre on the roof of the Vivian Beaumont Theater, a new home for LCT3, the programming initiative devoted to producing the work of emerging playwrights, directors, and designers; and the David Rubenstein Atrium, a vibrant public visitors' and ticketing facility on Broadway between 62nd and 63rd Streets. We are currently engaged in the re-imagination of David Geffen Hall, formerly Avery Fisher Hall. The concert hall and all public spaces will be transformed, enhancing the concertgoing experience, fostering a sense of community, and creating bold and innovative ways to connect with the world outside. The success of the venues we design is evident in our continued engagement with LCPA’s resident companies and our ongoing work – now with the folks at David Geffen Hall.
- [Hollywood Bowl](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/hollywood-bowl/) - A world-renowned venue for musical performances originally built in the 1920's, the Hollywood Bowl is the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. Its curvilinear acoustical shell is one of the most recognizeable icons in the world. After a major revival completed in June, 2004, the current incarnation integrates the state-of-the-art lighting and sound technology, restoring the shell's clean ucluttered look. A larger shell, visually anchored on each side; an adjustable, translucent, fiberglass and aluminum acoustic-reflection canopy, or 'halo' - with positions for down, side, back and front lighting; accommodations for up to 200 lighting fixtures - ranging from conventional spotlights to robotics, and a 50-foot turntable all designed by FDA now dramatically improve the Bowl's function. Both classical musicians and pop artists using the facility now benefit from 30% more stage space to accommodate a full orchestra as well as stage scenery, lighting and sound technology. The Hollywood Bowl also better accommodates a wider range of leased events. All of this was completed in the Bowl's eight-month off-season; the official reopening took place on schedule in June, 2004.
- [Chicago Symphony Center, Orchestra Hall](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/chicago-symphony-center-orchestra-hall/) - After a programming and technical analysis of the existing facility by FDA, SOM, and Kirkegaard & Associates, the Chicago Symphony asked for a major renovation and expansion of public and front- and back-of-house spaces in the historic landmark designed by renowned Chicago architect Daniel Burnham. The project addressed space deficiencies, poor sightlines, and code requirements and took four years to complete.
- [Javits Center](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/javits-center/) - FDA consulted on the Jacob Javits Center's 30,000 square foot Special Events Hall. The Special Events Hall can seat up to 3,200 for theatre-style meetings and 1,200 for banquets. The Hall includes a proscenium stage with motorized rigging and performance lighting.
- [Artis—Naples, Naples Philharmonic, Frances Pew Hayes Hall](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/artis-naples-philharmonic-frances-pew-hayes-hall/) - The handsome, 90,000-square-foot arts center in the planned community of Pelican Bay houses two theatres, as well as painting, sculpture, and photography galleries.
- [Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/arena-stage-at-the-mead-center-for-american-theater/) - A seminal American regional theatre, Arena Stage outgrew its facility long ago but was not able to take on a major renovation as quickly as it desired. FDA worked directly for Arena for over ten years to plan and design an ambitious transformation of its facility in collaboration with architect Bing Thom. The resulting Mead Center for American Theater transforms a landmark theatre into a stunning new complex with not only a new theatre, but also workshops, storage areas, rehearsal, public, and classroom spaces incorporated seamlessly into the design.
- [Greenhill School | Marshall Family Performing Arts Center](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/greenhill-school-marshall-family-performing-arts-center/) - Named for the Marshall family, the performing arts center creates a new stage for all of the arts and is the focus of the performing arts at the Greenhill School. The double-height lobby connects all the performance venues and creates a destination for informal performances and spontaneous interaction. The facility includes a 600-seat proscenium theatre, a 150-seat studio theatre, an 80-seat dance and choral hall, a video production and digital media lab, a production studio, two fine arts galleries, an expansive grand lobby, and ancillary teaching and performance spaces. Students' skills are honed in the learning environments of the theatre spaces, as well as in the classrooms, dressing rooms, costume shop, and scene shop.
- [Ford’s Theatre](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/fords-theatre/) - Reopened in February, 2009 after an 18-month renovation, Washington D.C.'s historic Ford's Theatre now has comfortable new seats and brighter interior lighting systems. The goal of the restoration by the National Parks Service, with architect Robert Pruitt of ADS in Falls Church, VA, and with FDA's participation, was to preserve the intimate feel of the Civil War-era theater along with physical features such as the wallpapered box where Lincoln was seated. ADA accessibility was another key objective, and a new heating and air conditioning system was installed for audience comfort. Paul Tetrault, Director, commented, "Forty years had passed since the last major restoration. The theater was looking haggard. We needed to upgrade the building systems and interior so we could attract first-class talent and present the best American work." FDA was instrumental in replacing the original wooden gridiron and rope rigging with a steel grid and motorized, computer-controlled rigging. As part of our design for a new stage lighting system, the top balcony now supports expanded and enhanced stage lighting positions and a new control and followspot booth. And finally, uncomfortable wooden chairs have been replaced with fully upholstered seats. These new seats are self-rising for easier access to the rows.
- [Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/esplanade-arts-heritage-centre/) - The 700-seat Esplanade Theatre is a magical place. The state-of-the-art acoustic design, orchestra lift, and large stage are capable of accommodating a variety of musical or theatrical performances. Features include a full fly tower, orchestra pit, under floor traps, sound and lighting control booth, box office, plus a "quiet" room that affords a full view of the stage. The theatre will function as a facility for classical music, drama, performing arts, musicals, conferences, graduation ceremonies, community events, and large-scale presentations or lectures. Located directly across the luxurious Esplanade lobby, the studio theatre provides a smaller venue for performing arts productions catered to a more intimate setting. Also a great rehearsal space, the studio theatre is equipped with sound and lighting to accommodate theatrical, music or dance events for up to 140 people. Tables and chairs could be set up for an informal presentation, reception or meeting. The Center also includes a City Archival Center, Museum and Discovery Center.
- [Duke Ellington School of the Arts](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/duke-ellington-school-of-the-arts/) - The design finds the balance between restoring and respecting the historic fabric while creating major new academic and performance venues, expanding the complex. The "Arts Machine" design sought to express and expose what goes on inside, promoting interdepartmental awareness and collaboration, and inviting the neighborhood in to experience the fruits of its diverse pre-professional programs. The academic and performance environment revolves around a four-story atrium, with the new iconic 800-seat Duke Ellington Theater "egg" suspended in the middle as the institution's metaphoric heart. New construction is woven in and around the restored historic building fabric to accommodate the large studios, performance and rehearsal spaces, which are complimented by exterior elements such as the outdoor Plaza placed at the top of the gently sloping front lawn, the Media Reading Room Terrace sheltered under the grand two-story portico and the Education Terrace on the Ellington Theater Roof with its spectacular views across the city, all contribute to its expression of revitalization.

- [Centene Corporate Auditorium (Discontinued)](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/centene-corporate-auditorium/) - Offices, a corporate training center and auditorium, corporate lodging, retail space, and parking garages comprise Centene Corp.'s $770M campus expansion project in Clayton.
- [Celebrity Millennium, Celebrity Theater](https://www.fisherdachs.com/portfolio/celebrity-millennium/) - Fisher Dachs Associates, along with Wilson Butler Lodge (now WBA) designed the Theaters,for Celebrity's new Millennium Class ships - Millennium, the class' flagship, and its sister ship Infinity. The 900-seat Celebrity Theaters represent a distinct departure from the show lounges on the line's previous ships. An additional deck, making a total of five, was added to create a full balcony, and the stage is furnished with a full fly-loft behind a traditional proscenium. The design is based on a contemporary rendition of a classical circular geometry. The room's refined detailing is offset by a rich palette of leathers, lacquered wood veneers and fabric valences and curtains. The overall effect is at once timeless and thoroughly modern. As a result of these efforts, Celebrity now provides a broad range of entertainment programs in a groundbreaking, state-of-the-art facility.
