Josh Winiarski

Consultant

B.F.A. Theatre Production, University of Connecticut (UConn)

Josh Winiarski (WIN-ARE-SKII) joined FDA in December 2025 as a consultant in the BIM and Drafting department. He brings a wealth of knowledge from over a decade in the theater and construction industries, with an educational background in theater production focusing on Lighting and Projection design.

Josh received his BFA in Theatre Production from the University of Connecticut (UConn) in 2016 before starting his career in the construction industry. Immediately following graduation, he had an internship at ARUP in NYC with their theater consulting team where he helped with drafting, sightline studies, seating layouts, and building programming. Josh next found a home at Texas Scenic Company (now part of Wenger Corp.) as a draftsperson at their headquarters in San Antonio, TX where he drafted countless theatrical rigging projects across the state. Josh then migrated north to the office in the South Bronx, where he became an assistant project manager. His responsibilities included rigging engineering & design for motorized, counterweight, and deadhung systems, as well as providing drafting and BIM support to the NYC project management team. Josh was later promoted to BIM Services Manager which involved handling BIM coordination for all company projects as well as developing company-wide standards for BIM modeling and coordination. Some notable projects Josh worked on while at Texas Scenic Company include The Lindman Performing Arts Center at Brown University in Providence, RI, The Javits Convention Center Expansion in NYC, and the Palace Theatre Renovation in NYC.

Not long after COVID 19 lockdowns ended, Josh took a career break to learn more about data science and analytics. He enrolled in online courses that covered coding in Python, R, and SQL to train LLMs, manipulate data, and generate reports. He took on a few temporary positions at UConn, first as an interim Program Assistant for the Department of Dramatic Arts which included oversight of the day-to-day operations of the department and providing assistance to the department head. Josh also worked as the Interim Theater Operations Manager for the von der Mehdon Recital Hall, which required running every aspect of the space from scheduling, ticketing, and advertising, to managing a crew of over 20 undergraduate student laborers, as well as attending performances to assist with set up and break down. Josh also helped teach the undergraduate theater drafting class.

Josh then moved back into the construction industry, as a project manager for Sarazin General Contractors inc. (SGC) in North Windham, CT. During his time at SGC, the projects he oversaw provided invaluable insight into construction management.

In his spare time, Josh enjoys swimming, watching movies and playing games. He also has a budding interest in macro photography and spent years training in the martial art of Hapkido. He is a jack of all trades with an engineering mindset and loves to learn about niche topics.
